March is a graphic novel by John Lewis and Andrew Aydin. Students are expected to read the first book in the trilogy (the school will provide each student with a copy of the text before summer). The novel is based on the extraordinary life of John Lewis, a United States congressman who has played a pivotal role in our country’s civil rights movement.
Reading: Students are required to read the first book of the March trilogy AND the following additional reads:
In Cold Blood by Truman Capote
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
Evaluation: Students should be prepared to discuss March through oral and written discussion upon their return to school in August. For the additional reads, students will complete writing assignments that will be explained at the beginning of the year.
