When applied correctly, personalized learning can move mountains for students. It means that assignments and instruction are tailored to individual students’ interests, needs, and skills. It allows the teacher to bring in more robust, useful, and varied material into the classroom. It opens up probabilities for strategic groupings to allow students to learn better from one another.

 Technology — when employed properly and meaningfully — can help educators deliver differentiated, individualized and personalized instruction. It can help facilitate timely interventional responses, involve parents more in their children’s learning, empower school leaders with data to support teachers, and either break down problems or make those problems more complex, based on the individual needs of the student. It’s up to savvy teachers to connect the appropriate tools with the right students.

  1. Create a "Test Course" and add one other teacher participating in the session as a "Member"
  2. Create & Edit Grading Groups 
  3. Create, assign and grade an assignment within Schoology and embed a Google Doc, hyperlink, image, video and voice recording 
    1. Assign activity to whole class or Grading Group 
  4. Create a Test/Quiz within Schoology 
  5. Create, moderate and respond to Class Discussion question and assign discussion questions to specific Grading Groups
  6. Be prepared to share your findings with the group and identify next steps moving forward

    1. Be sure to select "Start from Scratch"

    2. Save useful pages as Bookmarks for easier reference later, especially the "Cheat Sheet pages"

  2. After learning about the features and functions of the product, click "Try it Now" to work with an actual file

  3. Check out the "Learn by Job" , "Learn by Task" and "Tips Library"

  4. Investigate "Team Drives" as it's been an incredible resource for sharing and collaborating with other professionals

SMART Exchange & SMART Notebook - What is it?

  1.  Identify your needs based upon instructional and/or administrative objectives.
  2. Explore SMART Exchange - Online collection of free, peer-reviewed digital resources that can be downloaded and modified to best meet instructional needs.
  3. Go to SMART Exchange and create an account if you haven't already, (use district email)
    1. Click "Sign in" in the top right corner
    2. Users can search without having an account
    3. Begin editing the Notebook and bring your questions to the session
  4. Search for a Notebook for an upcoming unit of instruction and download to your desktop (Contact Dan if having trouble)
  5. Before editing, learn more about SMART Notebook 17.1 then begin editing Notebook to meet your needs -
  6. Connect to the interactive board in the classroom and practice utilizing Notebook and interactive function
    1. *For those using SMART Notebook on a Polyvision Board; Polyvision eno icon Strip
    2. *For those using SMART Notebook on an EPSON Interactive Projector: Epson Interactive Tools
  7. Be prepared to share your findings with the group and identify next steps moving forward
